That didn't last long...

I had to post some pics of last night's progress.

I got the trans in. The case on this new Baker 4 is beefier, so I had to take out the tranny plate to get the bastard in. TIIIIGHT fit.

Got the sprockets lined up and started messing with the chain. The front fender bracket is almost finished, so now it's time for the sissy bar.

The left side tank sat a hair higher than the right in the rear. We ground through some JB Weld there and found that someone had brazed around the rear mount at one point. Instead of leaving it, we cut it out and Mike made a new piece to replace it.

Perfect fit. Gotta drill a hole and pop in a bung next.

Knowledge is king...

Since I'm a nerd and I feel the need to know the most about shit that I can, I've been doing research on the redesign of the Sportster for 2004 (since I now own one). Not only was the rubber mounted motor essentially changed to the Buell design, which in turn made them change the frame design altogether, they also changed the transmission. In earlier models, the transmission was removable through the primary with a trap door much like its big twin brethren (of course the big twin trap door face the right side since the drive side is opposite of a Sportster). In 2004 though, they opted to make it impossible to access the gear set as a cassette like earlier models and now you have to split the cases to do ANYTHING to the transmission. Now, this isn't a huge deal, but if you had intentions of doing anything aftermarket such as changing to a Baker reverse pattern drum or an XL6 gear set, then the 04-up will not accomodate those changes.

Here is a good picture of the inside of the left case that I took from XLForum.net.

On a mission...

To post none of my own pics this week. I don't really have shit new to contribute anyway.

Out Today...

Get your face melted off.

So cool...

I wish these were still around.

Thunder Beach...

A high school/college friend is having his bachelor party in PCB the weekend of Thunder Beach. I think I'm going to ride down so I can party with thousands of uniformed bikers.

Went on Saturday...

And picked up a new ride. She isn't the prettiest, but she's fun and a good start.

Of course I had to start taking off useless garbage.

And I can't leave well enough alone, so the chopping of something had to begin.

Monday...not good so far.

Fueling up in Crawfordsville...

I haven't seen pumps like this since the 80's.

Stolen Sportster pic Friday...

A funky little ride I took from the XL Forums.

20100218

I'm starting to second guess it...

It's a good deal, but there is rust in a few spots since he lives near the beach, there looks to possibly be a head gasket leak and those fork boots look like dog shit. Dammit.

Viking Skull...

Warrior Dash

I just signed up for the Warrior Dash. Beer, an obstacle course, music, viking hats, and a party up in Clayton, GA. next to the Playhouse strip club? Hell yes.

It looks like...

That 883R I made an offer on is coming home with me. I feel like I shouldn't be buying another newer bike, but I also have a vision that I feel like I have to chase. I might be easily persuaded to buy another Shovel or even a good condition Ironhead for the right price (I wish I could find a Pan for about $4K).

In the meantime, here is a cool Sporty:

Mike Saligoe's shop...

There is so much cool old racing stuff around there, and he'll break out all of the cool tools/parts/etc. in the middle of working on something and tell you a story about how it was handmade and that was how they did things back then.

20100215

Hehehehehe...

I saw this walking down the ethnic food aisle at Kroger last night.

A little more...

Thank God I'm buying another bike because my deadline of the end of February isn't happening. Good things are coming from this though, so I'm still stoked. We got the rear fender mount sorted and in process, made rear spacers and I got the rear brake located and the tab/mounting done.

Hartman T/F Cycles...

Located in Canton. Nice as shit guys who know a ton about every kind of Harley you can think of. In house port/polish, CNC, balancing/truing, dynoing, powder coating...they don't farm out shit. They have my 98" right now doing a few tricks to it so I can get it back together. I'll do a full write-up on them next time I'm up there.

I stoled dis Friday...

Wanted...

More of these. Sportster and Big Twin hole orientation.

Ideas...

Constantly floating around in my head.

Mechanize...

The new Fear Factory came out yesterday. Christian Olde Wolbers is out, but Dino is back in. It's a damn good album.

20100209

Dual Sportster...

Another of the one I posted below.

More options...

2006 883R with a 1203 Buell kit and T-storm heads on it (I made an offer on this, but haven't heard anything back), a 2007 KLR 650 with really low miles or this '64 Ironhead with a Harley springer front end that needs to be finished (owner says 95%).

Another Monday...

If I hear "who dat" one more time, I'll punch a baby in the mouth.

I'm in the middle of searching for an additional bike. I'm thinking a Sportster, 1200 kit, whatever else. I'm looking to spend $3-4K. I'd look at anything though if you have something else worth a shit.

More work over the weekend...

Mounted the swingarm to make spacers and start with mounting the rear fender.

Tacked on the caps and bungs.

Mounted the tanks so we can put the tab on the left side.

Mike doing what he does best.

A little preview of what's to come.
