Thanks to my buddy Dave, I got a smoking deal at a local dealer on a Lancaster Arms AK 74. 5.45x39 poison bullets are good enough for me. I can't wait to have time to get to the range. Now I need to order some parts.
Change the grip to a SAW grip, so much beefier and more to hold than the dainty little standard AK grip. Of course I carried a SAW in the Army for a few years. I much preffered my M-16A2 or M-4 with the M-203 grenade launcher but I was a grenadier mostly. I also had to lug around an AT-4 in Bosnia m second rotation.
Yep, Tapco Folding stock on mine, but everything else is the same. I also got that AIM 4 Holographic sight but makes it look a little funny with it way up on the piston cover with the rail.
You got a "smoking deal" on that rifle because Lancaster Arms rifles are bottom of the barrel.
Lancaster Arms has had 33 complaints filed against them with the Better Business Bureau, and many of their AK-74 rifles had to be recalled because they were shoddily built and potentially dangerous. In fact, you should check to make sure the rifle you bought isn't a recall rifle. (That might explain why it was such a "good" deal.)
Go to the "Lancaster Sucks" blog, and read about the dozens and dozens of people who have had problems with this company. And if that doesn't convince you, contact the Arizona Attorney General's office and ask them how many complaints they've received about Lancaster Arms. You might be surprised.
The owner of Lancaster Arms is widely regarded to be a huckster who is only in this business for short-term gain, and seemingly no one in the AK world has anyting good to say about him. In fact, one of the most prominent and well-known AK builders in the U.S. (who was the winner of the 2007 "Small Arms Review Gunsmith of The Year" award, has publicly stated that he thinks the owner of Lancaster Arms is a "con-man" and a "pathological liar".
The Internet is littered with complaints about Lancaster rifles. It would be one thing if only a couple people were complaining, but there have been literally dozens and dozens of reports of defective Lancaster products. (I heard Lancaster's best builder quit a few years ago because he didn't like the way the owner was running the bisiness into the ground.)
Hopefully your rifle is fine, but you should know...these rifles have a significant history of problems. But don't believe me...Google "Lancaster Arms" and see for yourself.

Yup, Tapco SAW grip, a quad rail, 6 way stock, forgrip and tapco comp 30 round mag are on my list.

When I'm home for more than a week I think I'll get all the Tapco stuff for my SKS too.
