Good beer post...

I love IPAs, I love Belgians...so when a brewer decides to combine the two, I have to give it a whirl. Sweet, malty notes of the Belgian with the bitter hoppyness of an IPA...it's like Heaven in your mouth. Don't drink too much though, cuz these will sneak up on you.

Good beer...mmmm....

Unless you're stuck in the middle of the woods with a bunch of scumbag bikers and the closest beer store is miles away, then you should drink good beer. It's good for the soul.

More good beers. Like sex for the tastebuds. Drink good beer and stop trying to find the cheapest shit at the bar.

I haven't made a beer post in a while. Here are a couple of recent additions (and more in the fridge. Thank God that these smaller batch beers have descriptions on the side so I can save myself from typing about them. Enjoy good beer and quit being sheep.

Good beer...

Banana Split Chocolate Stout? That's right, and it was delicious. It wasn't overly sweet, and had a good banana flavor to counter the heavy chocolate flavor of the malts. Very good.

As far as the Sweetwater, that is their 15th Anniversay beer. I remember drinking Sweetwater back in 1999, so I guess that I hadn't considered that I'd been drinking it since pretty much the beginning of this craze.

We went to the Sweetwater brewery on Saturday for the Brew Your Cask Off Festival and had a damn good time. 120 different beers, jalapeno corn dogs, good looking women. It was great. There was a peanut butter banana chocolate stout that I got down on, as well as the best beer of the night to me, a chocolate hazelnut ale called Smooth Brown Balls. I missed the Haints Dojo Party to be at this, but I'll get up with them soon (miss you guys).

Good beer post...

Sometimes life causes you to take a step or two back and collect your thoughts. I've had to do that recently and that's the reason why the blog has been getting neglected. I won't get into it or dwell on it, but I'll try harder. The blue bike is going through a couple of changes and the new bike is in limbo. I've got other stuff to take care of first.

Drink beer. It's good for the soul. Here are a couple that I pulled out this past weekend. The Ommegang BPA was especially right up my alley. Being a fan of Belgian Style Pale Ales (La Chouffe Houblon Chouffe being my favorite), this beer was like sipping on the nectar of the Gods. A mildly sweet taste with a nice hoppy punch that just kind of covers all of your taste buds.

Usually I'm not a Flanders fan, but I had to try this since it was from the local boys at Terrapin. Flanders will typically be a sour red ale that is outside of my liking, not bitter, but overly sour. This though, was not overwhelming and had a good hop bite combined with a slight hint of sour. It was a good balance that I wasn't expecting, as I had bought this bottle about a year and half ago and "cellared" it to open at a later date.

It's a big one, so luckily the beers all have good descriptions on them. I won't write about any of them...not as if anyone reads my drivel anyway.

I don't feel like writing much.

The Davey Jones Lager had a smooth, malty, sweet bite.

The Fresh Hop was reminiscent of So Fresh & So Green, Green...a very grassy fresh taste.

The Punk IPA is a strong IPA with a very hoppy flavor and is made by Brew Dog in Scotland (the guys that make Tactical Nuclear Penguin, Sink The Bismark, etc.).

The Chatoe Rogue is rogues attempt at an all organic, locally grown beer. It has a very good, hoppy flavor without too much overpowering bite. I'd drink all of them again.

Good beer...

Rogue Yellow Snow IPA. Big body with big hops. If you like them strong and hoppy, this has a great flavor.

It's been a while since I made a beer post. I've been in and out of town and wrapped up in too many projects to post anything worth a shit on here in a while. I promise to get the ball rolling again.

What can I say? Terrapin came out with a beer repping the A-Town to the fullest. A lot of people heard of Outkast when Andre 3000 hit the top of the charts with that "Hey Ya" song. Okay, good on him for stepping outside the box and being himself, but that's not who Outkast is to those of us who have been fans since 1994 or so (and even those that came later and remember the real thing). Outkast had a song song called So Fresh, So Clean. The hook went, "Ain't nobody dope as me, I'm just so fresh, so clean...SO FRESH AND SO CLEAN, CLEAN." Well, there you have the inspiration for the name...

The beer itself is hoppy without being overpowering and has no crazy fruit or sweet hints to it. It is a hoppy beer for people that like that green, fresh taste of hops. Hence the name. I enjoyed the shit out of it.


Next up is Abita's Andygator. Abita is brewed in Louisiana and they have several beers that are well-known here in the south. This one doesn't disappoint and is a sweet, smooth bock. It lacks the blah taste of pungent malt extracts that a bad bock will leave you with and just has a strong, sweet flavor. I enjoyed the shit out of this one too.
