Put in work...

Or at least act like it. Nabbed a bunch of OE parts from a local guy today. Cam, heads and 9.0:1 Wisecos on the way too.

Oooooh...pretty.

Letting stuff fall by the wayside...

I haven't neglected this blog like this in years, but with everything else going on, it's kind of taken a back seat. Things change, people fall off the grid, people's priorities are different...it's all part of the progression of life.

I'm working diligently on this Panhead, trying to source parts and pieces that are seemingly hard to come by. In this world where so many have a vintage love affair, it's hard to get hoarders to come off of good parts even if they know that they'll never put them to use themselves. It actually saddens me that so many people would rather suit their own egos by feeling they have amassed something worth talking about instead of saying, "Hell yeah, I helped him get that bike running with stuff from my collection. I'm glad to see something that hasn't been in use in 60 years is helping motivate another two wheeled machine." I personally would rather see parts moving and old iron on the streets instead of being part of someone's art collection, but that's a matter of opinion. Motorcycles were meant to be ridden, not parted and collected. That's part of why I appreciate Wheels Through Time so much. Dale and Matt make sure that anything there has fuel and oil and will run whenever they want it to. There's something to be said about that.

I'd like to have things done on this Panhead before next spring. My Shovel is running like a top and as long as it stays that way, I can put a full effort into searching, assembling and making mine something that I can concoct in my head. It won't be period correct, it won't be the hottest chopper on the street, but it'll be mine.

In the meantime, here is something outside of the box:

Good beer post...

I love IPAs, I love Belgians...so when a brewer decides to combine the two, I have to give it a whirl. Sweet, malty notes of the Belgian with the bitter hoppyness of an IPA...it's like Heaven in your mouth. Don't drink too much though, cuz these will sneak up on you.

Sunset...

Took a boat ride with buddies on Friday after work. What a good way to start a weekend.

500 different beers...

That's too much drinking for one man, but my goal was reached.

20120614

Endless cycle...

Ride the Shovel to work to make money to build the Pan. I'm addicted.

20120613

Never posted...

One for Chris Nowell's lady friend. Freehanded Stevie Ray Vaughan style.

It was all a dream...

I use to Easy Rider magazine.

Something awesome....

Starts like this. Pray to the motorcycle gods that this journey is a good one.

Wasting away again in Margaritaville...

Joe sent me a pic of him at a Jimmy Buffett show. Nice koozie.

When I get back...

Getting after it.

9:10am...

That's what time I cracked my first beer today. Henry A's serves biscuits and beers that early.

My brother in law...

And I rented some scooters in St. George Island for two hours. We went for a cruise and then did some barhopping.

4 years of awesome...

Happy birthday to the best wrenching buddy ever.

Good beer...mmmm....

Unless you're stuck in the middle of the woods with a bunch of scumbag bikers and the closest beer store is miles away, then you should drink good beer. It's good for the soul.

My weekend ride...

Not a really long one, but a really good one. I love riding GA/TN/NC roads.

Salt Life?

Naw, that's lake water. Have a good Memorial Day.

300 miles...

From Buford to BMR in Tennessee, through North Carolina to Lake Rabun back to Buford riding totally solo. What a killer way to spend Memorial Day weekend. Thanks to the friends for the good times and all of the veterans for your service. We get all of these freedoms because of the sacrifices you've made.

In yo face, son...

Flounder's face made contact with Mike's head in the mash pot. Straight sex, player. Good riding, but BMR was only meh this year. I was so happy to see Chris Nowell though...1100 miles in two days. What a badass,

Desert-borne car-cycle...

People have been posting all over about the miraculous ingenuity of a man who while stuck in the desert, created a motorcycle from his broken down car. What these memes and short stories don't tell you is that he broke down in the desert because he went driving across it towards a war torn part of Morocco when he was denied forward progress at a roadblock by military officials...so it was his own fault. Even better is, people aren't posting one of the other pictures from the photoset of him standing next to the donor car...in some animal print briefs. His name is Emile Leray and he seems very unique.

Big Mountain Run 2012...

Alright, here we go. Eric, Chris, and a big crew are heading out here in a few minutes and I'll be riding solo starting tomorrow at about 1pm or so. I'll see you guys in Tennessee. I might just have to buy a round for my broskis that I don't get to see enough of.

20120522

More paint work...

Haven't touched brushes in a while. This ones for Chris Nowell. He wanted a helmet for his girl with her initials in the Stevie Ray Vaughan strat font.

Obviously not done...haven't finished the outline (which will make sharp, clean edges), but just wanted to show that I haven't totally fallen off of the map.

I dont push my views on to people but this hits home.

Figure it out...

20120515

Duck Dunn...

I just found out that a bass legend died on Sunday. If you remember the post from the Blues Brothers that I put up a while back, Donald "Duck" Dunn is the one who says, "If the shit fits, wear it." He was one of the members of Booker T and The MGs and an incredible rhythm man. That sucks. Godspeed Duck.

Purty...

At least to me it is...now I need to make or have something made to replace the cam gear cover. Maybe Ross would be up for it.

20120514

Good beer...

More good beers. Like sex for the tastebuds. Drink good beer and stop trying to find the cheapest shit at the bar.

This guy...

Wants to be in the garage all of the time. I'm a lucky guy.

Running like a champ...

Got in some riding this weekend. She runs good...and hopefully she stays that way. Now, whether to go to BMR next week or not.

20120511

Why Would Anyone Want To Do The BMR????

This shit gets me so Hyped up if you are on the east coast and miss the BMR you're crazy. Good times great people. See you soon broSS!

Didn't know you...

And never owned one of your creations, but thanks for your effort. The world of customization would've never existed without people with your passion. Godspeed Mr. Shelby.

Good Beer Post...

I haven't made a beer post in a while. Here are a couple of recent additions (and more in the fridge. Thank God that these smaller batch beers have descriptions on the side so I can save myself from typing about them. Enjoy good beer and quit being sheep.

Forking By Frank...

2" under FLH tubes for the '69 front end gonna on the next bike. Gotta hit the ground running once I'm happy with everything I've done to the blue bike.

Back together...

Been going for short rides and laying off the throttle, but it seems to still love me. Pray to the gods of speed that I can sustain that.

20120508

Now my name is M.C.A., I've got a license to kill...

I think you know what time it is, it's time to get ill Now what do we have here, an outlaw and his beer I run this land, you understand, I make myself clear." We stepped into the wind, he had a gun, I had a grin You think this story's over but it's ready to begin
I've been meaning to say something about this for days, but I kept getting sidetracked. I saw The Beasties at Lollapalooza in 1994. That was some fun shit and I was just a kid at the time. I look back and think, "Man, things were so much cooler back then." From a philosophical standpoint though, things are always as cool as they will be at that very moment, so enjoy. One day you'll be on your deathbed looking back and thinking about how much cooler things were...and you'll be thinking about right now. RIP MCA...the world will miss you. By the way, the new Blogger SUCKS!!!

20120507

Finally...

I haven't wanted to post since I got back from vacation because I've been more concerned with getting this bike back together, tuned and easy kicking. Between doing the top end on a motor and putting on a magneto with single fire MSG units, you don't really want to talk about it until you know what you did is right. Anyway, for the time being, things seem to be going as planned...we'll see if it stays that way.
