Hmmm...

The color is a little different (more maroon) than I thought and there are a few more dents, but I'll work it out and make it look decent. This is going in the pile for the next project.

In need of...

A radiator shop around here...any suggestions? Seth? Justin?

I need to get these tanks dipped and lined.

Progression...

I finally got back out to Mike's shop this weekend. We worked on the sissy bar and I popped the motor back in the frame. The sissy/grab bar isn't completely done and it will get lightened up a little more, but you can see the main idea. Typically they look best when they match the angle of the front end, but since the front end is raked a little more on the FXWG frames I didn't want it angled back too far, so I matched the angle of the rear posts on the frame. Too many angles looks like ass, but I think this works fine.

Stolen Pic Friday again...

I think I've forgotten the last couple of Fridays. Here's a fine example of a Shovel top on an Ironhead (a Shovester...bleh) with a HUGE drag slick on the back and wheelie bars.

Bell Helmets...

I stole this picture from someone a while back, but didn't realize that it was actually a limited production helmet from Bell. They have some decent DOT approved 3/4 helmets out now if your state requires them.

Join the skinny club...

If you're looking for a skinny wheel for the skinny bike to match the skinny trend, Danny Franssen occasionally orders a few of them from a manufacturer overseas. I got in on the last order and I'm sure there'll be another one soon.

They're 21x1.5" and the thread is on the Jockey Journal in the Jock Shops section.

These pics were taken from that thread.

If anyone knows where to find one, send me an email.

CFL is on eBay...

Thar she blows!!!

New Deftones...

She's not perfect...

But she'll do. I got this on eBay. It has a couple of dents that need to be worked out, but I still have an idea for it.

I wish I'd seen the one on Born Loser quicker.

A project for the backburner...

Justin and I did a little swapping this weekend. This is now on my bench.

Finally...some more progress...

I went out to Hartman on Saturday (during my lunch break) and picked up my motor. Since they were boring the jugs and putting in new .030" over pistons, replacing the guides, lapping the valves, etc. I had them just go ahead and put the rest of it back together. It saved me the hassle since I have no time these days. I got it back, touched up a few areas where the bead blasting knocked the black off of the heads, cleaned up the cases and put the carb on. I need to sand the other rocker box and get a couple of more things buttoned down and I'll be able to toss her in the frame. I kept the B grind at the advice of Kraut since he thought it was a better match for a regular street driven stroker motor than the more potent 560s like I had planned on putting in there.

Oh, and since it's .030" over 3 5/8" bore and 4 3/4" stroke, it's now a 99.68 ci motor...she's a 100 incher.

Frank Frazetta...

I started off this morning listening to a little Alabama Thunderpussy. For some reason their album Open Fire always makes me think of Frank Frazetta's art...which of course was choice tank art back in the 70's. Maybe I should do a tank with some Frazetta art. hmmmm

Deal's Gap...

As seen in Two Lane Blacktop:

I can't wait...

To have this shitwagon back together. Of course it will be totally different, but it'll have the same soul, blood.

A day after a few Guinness...

You aren't in the mood for Dropkick Murphys anymore. Pelican is a good atmospheric metal band. It's borderline stoner rock/post metal, but grooves hard. I dig most of the stuff from Hydra Head Records like Pelican, Isis, Torche, Scissorfight, Converge...just a good mix of various types of metal. Small Stone Records is another label that puts a lot of good bands out there...and I'm ranting now.

Start the day off right...

I love this bike...

And I haven't had anything worthwhile of my own to post recently because I haven't had time to wipe my own ass, so I'll post another pic of it.

Happy St. Patty's Day

Have a pint, celebrate with friends and try to imagine the poor soul that came up with the leprechaun on a chopper with a rainbow coming out of his ass.

Slow Goin'...

Mike's been sick with the H1N1 for a couple of weeks, so working on the Shovel at his shop hasn't been an option. Luckily though I can still make some progress. I'm going to have Eric paint the oil tank with the tank and fenders, so I have to prep it. I'm sanding the chrome with 150 grit, then he'll using an etching primer before he sprays it.

I got that cap from someone on the JJ. I thought it was neat. I debated on using a matching Pro Werks anodized cap, but don't know if I feel like cutting and welding on the tank.

Just Awesome...

Daylight Savings Time...

SUCKS!!! I hate waking up when it's still dark outside.

20100312

Cam cover chops...

I already started on the sprocket cover, and next up will be the cam cover. It's one of the easiest, and to me, neatest (aesthetically) mods you can do to a stock Sporty.

The photos are obviously courtesy of XLForum.net.

700 posts...

And coming up on the two year anniversary of The BDAC. I wonder how long this will last.

It's been raining...

And it's going to keep raining. I hope it doesn't rain as much this year as it did last year. We were in a drought all year a couple of years ago and Lake Lanier was about 10 feet under full pool. It's been over full for a while now.

If you're from Atlanta...

This will always be a classic.

Peace out Corey...

Sad case. He made some movies I loved as a kid.

I may regret it later...

But things have come up and I think it's time to sell the CFL. I'm just not into it anymore and I'd rather someone actually build it instead of me sit on it for 5 or 10 years. I'll probably part it out, so if you're interested in anything, give me a shout.

Nerdy Monday...

I got burned out on Ducati girl Monday.

A conversation with my buddy Rob regarding V8 motors this morning made for a good Monday morning knowledge soak.

The V8 engine is oft-credited to Henry Ford, especially the monoblock V8. That's not the case though as it was first developed by Leon Lavavausser as the Antoinette V8 for airplanes It was then adapted to Renault and Rolls Royce in small numbers in the early 20th century. In 1914 Cadillac developed the l-head V8 and mass produced it, selling 13,000 V8 equipped models in that year alone. In 1916 Oldsmobile began use of the V8 followed by Chevrolet in 1917. In 1932, Ford introduced the V8 that was popularized by Bonnie and Clyde. Although several other manufacturers had developed V8s prior to this, the Ford incarnation was the first reliable V8 that made power in the same vein as V8s today. Based on what was to come of V8 motors, especially in the post-1965 muscle car era, the Ford was the first that would lead the way and not be an overweight/underpowered "monstrosity."

I found a...

Great condition 1968 C10 with a built 307 in it. Damn I'm tempted.

This isn't it, just one I stoled off the internetz. My only problem is, I have two kids now, so I'm thinking I might want to look for something with 4 seats.

I know I keep posting pics of Sportsters...

But it's my process. I'm thinking.

Amazing album...

Give it a spin.

20100305

Stolen from Church of Choppers...

And posted out of pure respect. I hope Jeff doesn't mind. This is just one of the baddest rides and comes from the mind of someone with pure vision.

Slow blogging...

My uploads have been slow and sparse this week. I've got a lot going on right now...

What to do...

This guy woke up one morning and thought, "I have no idea how to form metal, I have no fabricating tools, I don't even have any access to metal...all I have is this wood laying around. I sure would like to ride though...hmm."

Shifter...

Jason went over to Fab Kevin's shop and told him that I wanted a shifter. He showed Kevin pics of the Shovel and this is what Kevin came up with.
