Memorial Day...

Remember those who gave their lives so that we can do things that they can't do in other countries...like chop and ride motorcycles wherever we want.

My grandfather, Posey Crisp, proudly served in WWII. I remember when I was a kid he'd talk shit to me in Italian. He was a tough old farmer and body man for a local dealership in Andrews, NC. He died about 9 years ago, but luckily, when I was a freshman in college, I got to hear his stories for a paper I had to write in English 101. Godspeed Pepaw.

Pics of that trans for sale...

The finger seen 'round the world...

This picture will be on every motorcycle blog out there unless the blog owner thinks they're trying to be different by posting some other random shot of Dennis from that movie. It wasn't a good movie and I do own it on DVD, but the fact still remains that he spent a long life in cinema and inspired a lot of people. Vaya con dios Dennis. Enjoy the other side.

FS: Rotary Top 4 Speed...

Just like it says. This was the stock transmission from my 1980 FXWG. I was told by the original owner that it had Andrews gears, which I don't doubt since everything else he told me was true or better than he said. It could use a couple of seals, but shifts great and works like a charm. The only reason I pulled it was to use the new Baker.

How about $550 shipped OBO? Make me offers...you never know what I may say.

2nd article...

Part II came out. I feel special (even though I suck).

RIP Paul Gray...

I guess it does happen in threes...first Peter Steele, then Ronnie James Dio and now Paul Gray. I've heard plenty of people talk shit about Slipknot before, but what can't be denied is that they were instrumental in metal's move back to the mainstream in the late 90's/early 00's. I've always liked them and have seen them play live several times. Sucky...especially for those dudes from Des Moines.

So close II...

Finally laid down the speed holes on the Fab Kevin bracket while Mike was working on the coil mounts. The only thing left to fab up are the front caliper brackets.

So close...

Test fitted the original tanks for seat mount clearance, got the sissy bar buttoned up and the paint will get laid down this week. I'll start tossing it all together in two weeks.

Leather...

Christian sent me an email earlier with this picture. It's shrunken bull shoulder from Spain. Looks like I'll be sitting on that soon.

Cash Vault...

This thing was just parked outside of the building next door. Its one of those games where money blows around and you grab what you can.

Birthday present...

If you're reading this and you're the rich, philandering type, then feel free to cough up the $700 that homeboy wants for these perfect 3.5 gallon tanks. My 30th birthday is coming up next month, so you can come off of the hip if you like. I don't even have anything that I'll immediately put them on, but it would be nice to put them up on the wall for future use.

You can be a douche...

If you're looking for your very own replica Batman motorcycle, look no further. You can go to eBay, drop 100 large and get a real driving piece of shit that is painstakingly crafted to match the abortion that Batman defied the laws of physics with in the movies. A CBR motor, a couple of hydraulic rams from a forklift, some off-road golf cart tires, and a few model guns were cobbled together so that someone can satiate their fetish to act like the Dark Knight (or at least entice kids into their basement). Remember though, you'll be standing in line behind every rich pedophile and redneck lottery winner if you want to own this dumb ass piece of replicated movie history.

Damn paint...

I just can't decide. I can't decide on colors, pattern...anything. Since I left the frame the original molded navy metallic I have to do something that'll match with that, but if I go too far it'll look like shit. Maybe I'll just paint it like the Magnum PI Vanagon.

To chop or not to chop...

I got in the next frame. It's a titled, freshly powdercoated 1980 FXE frame from a dude named Boston. I had the intentions of hardtailing a stock frame, but he sent a round swingarm with it and it has all new bearings, neck cups, freshly greased, etc...I could just bolt something together if I wanted to.

I'll most likely still chop it up.

I'm having illusions...

Stripped almost to bare frame (got a couple of stuck fasteners and have to get the neck socket to remove the front end) and I tossed on the tank to start getting visuals of where to go with the build up.

Home Stretch...

I know it seems like it's taken me forever and a day, but the amount of work that's gone into this far exceeded my original intentions...and I'm glad. No slapping parts together here. The fab work is almost done though and Eric has all of the body work for paint. I'll send the seat off to Christian this week and do a few odds and ends. It'll be down to making the brake brackets for the front, tightening everything up and wiring.

Good golly...

Finished up the seat and a couple of other things this weekend.

We were making the rear bracket and I realized that the pan portion sat too close to the frame when the frame when the mounting tube was parallel to the frame. Solution? The third pic shows that I rolled the pan a little more (it's actually more comfortable) and then added some spacers. That will allow Christian to be able to properly wrap the seat anyway once I send it to him. I also put more radius in the sides since I located the rear mounting points. Good deal...another part done and the light at the end of the tunnel is visible.

R.I.P. Dio...

Although I will always be of the persuasion that Black Sabbath is only Black Sabbath when Ozzy is fronting them, I will say that metal would be different now had Ronnie James Dio never been on the scene. Even to this day songs like Holy Diver are covered over and over by bands like Killswitch Engage because they know where their roots are. R.I.P. Ronnie James Dio.

Stolen pic Friday oddball...

Stolen from the HAMB. I'm trying to convince myself (and Eric) to do a gloss/flat combo on the bike. I'm having a hard time deciding on colors though.

Eric's paint...

Eric painted his Dyna...the color is sick.

S2 350...

The bike we're working on for Josh...this is what they looked like stock. hahaha...neat.

20100513

Thanks Kris...

S2 350 tear down...

My buddy Josh's 350 got the royal treatment this weekend. We're tearing it down to bare frame and then rebuilding from there. It should be interesting to see what comes of it. I want to eliminate a bunch of the useless garbage and have it be a clean, lightweight bike when we are through. Eric came over to get some stuff from me and stayed for the whole thing...he needs a haircut.

20100511

Better pics...

Here's some better pics of the whole seat dealio. I still have to make the rear mounts, but you get the idea where it's going (and no, it will not be sprung in the rear).

Seat pan II...

Seat pan...

You know that oval tube that I made from round tube and the small inserts I cut out of solid round stock? Well here's where they went. I wanted something different for the seat mount without it being the focal point and an aesthetic nightmare. Its not quite done, but close.

Somebody's got a case of the Mondays...

I left my camera at home. Luckily I took some pics from my phone this weekend. I made Eric this tag bracket for helping me out with my paint. Simple, but effective.

Off to paint...

Eric's starting the body work this weekend, then once we lay it out he's going to shoot it. Still having trouble deciding which route to go...and these pics have nothing to do with it necessarily, but I dig the bikes, so call this a combo stolen pic Friday post.

Not a lot to contribute today...

So how about some ZZ Top?

Two Stroke Fury...

My buddy Josh's S2 350 Saki wasn't wanting to turn over. Since I didn't know much about these going in, I thought I would pull the heads and see what the story was. I pulled of the carbs, cut the seized throttle cables, pulled the 900 lbs. of exhaust and started on head bolts...wait, there's not pushrods, so it's not OHV...no cam gears either, so it's not OHC...OH, it's a two stroke. Pull the "heads" and then pulled a jug to start determining if the pistons were seized. This thing is hilarious. People back in '72 used to talk about how scary fast it was, but when it's apart it has three lawnmower sized pistons in it...with lawn mower piston rings. It's a big weedeater basically. I can either rebuild it here or take it down to Ace Hardware. hahaha.
