That didn't last long...
I had to post some pics of last night's progress.
I got the trans in. The case on this new Baker 4 is beefier, so I had to take out the tranny plate to get the bastard in. TIIIIGHT fit.
Got the sprockets lined up and started messing with the chain. The front fender bracket is almost finished, so now it's time for the sissy bar.
The left side tank sat a hair higher than the right in the rear. We ground through some JB Weld there and found that someone had brazed around the rear mount at one point. Instead of leaving it, we cut it out and Mike made a new piece to replace it.
Perfect fit. Gotta drill a hole and pop in a bung next.

Knowledge is king...
Since I'm a nerd and I feel the need to know the most about shit that I can, I've been doing research on the redesign of the Sportster for 2004 (since I now own one). Not only was the rubber mounted motor essentially changed to the Buell design, which in turn made them change the frame design altogether, they also changed the transmission. In earlier models, the transmission was removable through the primary with a trap door much like its big twin brethren (of course the big twin trap door face the right side since the drive side is opposite of a Sportster). In 2004 though, they opted to make it impossible to access the gear set as a cassette like earlier models and now you have to split the cases to do ANYTHING to the transmission. Now, this isn't a huge deal, but if you had intentions of doing anything aftermarket such as changing to a Baker reverse pattern drum or an XL6 gear set, then the 04-up will not accomodate those changes.
Here is a good picture of the inside of the left case that I took from XLForum.net.

Warrior Dash
I just signed up for the Warrior Dash. Beer, an obstacle course, music, viking hats, and a party up in Clayton, GA. next to the Playhouse strip club? Hell yes.
It looks like...
That 883R I made an offer on is coming home with me. I feel like I shouldn't be buying another newer bike, but I also have a vision that I feel like I have to chase. I might be easily persuaded to buy another Shovel or even a good condition Ironhead for the right price (I wish I could find a Pan for about $4K).
In the meantime, here is a cool Sporty:

Hartman T/F Cycles...
Located in Canton. Nice as shit guys who know a ton about every kind of Harley you can think of. In house port/polish, CNC, balancing/truing, dynoing, powder coating...they don't farm out shit. They have my 98" right now doing a few tricks to it so I can get it back together. I'll do a full write-up on them next time I'm up there.
