And saw that Al Roker hosts their morning show now. I thought of a more interesting "what if" scenario.

When thought isn't applied...
A couple of years ago, one of my old favorite comic book characters was written into one of the new age of Marvel films...Ghost Rider. I remember thinking it would be badass when they announced it and then thinking it was shit after I saw the trailer (and even more so when I saw the film). I just read on some website that they're planning on bringing this franchise back for a second film. Fine...you didn't see how shitty the first one went, but here's the thing that gets me:
I never questioned the story associated with Johnny Blaze or Ghost Rider, but it is what is known as a bit of a conundrum. Ghost Rider is an alleged antihero and is written as the result of a botched Faustian deal involving his mentor and the need for saving someone he loves (and, in a way reenacted in the second incarnation of Ghost Rider in the 1990's). The problem I have with this is that, historically, the ultimate sacrifice is to selflessly give one's own life/soul for the life of another. This is seen as the direct path to Heaven/higher level of transcendence, etc. by most religions. If that's the case then, wouldn't Johnny Blaze/Danny Ketch be more of a hero...a "soldier of God," if you will? Wouldn't that cancel out the evil or demonic essence of the character?
I've been drinking for a while, so this is just rambling bullshit, but it seemed like a bit of quandary to me after putting my weight in Belgian beer through my liver.
Congrats to OCC for getting to build another busted, piece of shit bike though. It had to be them who did the first one.

Chop/Hack/File/Sand II...
Up in the peak of that Derby Cover, there is a boss That is cast into the primary for seemingly no reason at all. It runs along the starter needle bearing housing and kind of a bitch. I used a dremel to clean out along the base of it and had it scored enough to snap it off. Then I cleaned up that area and the rest of the lip around where the derby cover was with a grinder. Then I used about 10 different grit sandpapers to clean up the lip. Aluminum is soft enough that it will sand just like wood.

I can smell it on myself after I ride, so my pregnant wife must think I smell HORRENDOUS.

Thanks Chopperdave...
I get my belt buckle in the mail the other day and Dave had wrapped it in this paper. I sit the paper on the counter, laugh and walk away. Then the wife strolls by. I walk in from the garage, covered in metal shavings and she's holding my son and reading the personal ads with a look on her face of "What the fuck do you have this for?" Quality.

New Harleys, BLEH!!!
I said a while back that I didn't know if I'd ever buy a new Harley again. Well, I believe the adage is "Never say never." I don't plan on buying one, but being the owner of a 30 year old, first year Wide Glide, I can appreciate the direction they've gone with this new model. I still hate the EFI and the 100 lbs. of wiring/excess shit, but that can be remedied.
John Thomas Kessinger II...
When I bought my 1980 Wide Glide, I was told several stories by the owner regarding it's history, etc. Thinking that maybe it was mostly just fluff to make it sound like a good deal, I dismissed a lot of it. One particular story was about the paint job, which is signed "Jhon of KC." I heard about how this guy did the paint back in the 80's and this guy was real well known, etc. Well, being as how the paint was a sign of times in which it was built, a goal of mine was to change it. I figured I'd get this season's riding over with and then tear the bike down and redo the paint while I had it apart.
I get an email this morning from the previous owner with a link. He said that he found out that about 6 weeks ago the guy who painted my bike died. I thought it was nice of him to inform me of the situation, but I also thought it was badass that not only was there truth to another one of the stories that came with the bike, but I also got to learn more about the guy who did it. I may redo the paint on the bike still, but I think I'll take these pieces off and hang them on the wall.

Another track we've lost, but with a pretty cool story.
This half-mile paved oval welcomed the NASCAR big leagues nine times between 1966 and 1971, four of those races were run by Richard Petty, two by Bobby Allison and one each by David Pearson and Bobby Isaac — all Cup champions.
In 1968, government agents raided the racetrack as part of a major illegal liquor sting. A secret door located in the ticket booth led to a ladder, which descended 35 feet to another hidden entrance. That trap door led to a 150-foot tunnel, which ended at a cave beneath the track infield. Inside the cave was a gigantic moonshine still, which was promptly shut down and the track owner was sent to the slammer.
The race, however, was run as planned and won by Pearson enroute to his second series title.

Chop/Hack/File/Sand...
I've been meaning to hack up a stock primary cover for a couple of months now to replace the V-Twin piece on the Wide Glide. I got to work this weekend. My time was cut short because my kid fell asleep.
The black dots were just me playing with ideas for drilling holes. Obviously I'm going to lay out the final product that crudely.
The last pic is of Bral from the JJ's primary. That's where I stole the idea from.

Lakewood Speedway...
I was doing a little reading about Lakewood Speedway. It was a hot spot for racing back the early 20th Century here in Atlanta. Every kind of race was held there and it was once dubbed "Indianapolis of the South."
It's now covered up partially by the parking lot and ticket gates to Lakewood Amphitheater and the main stretches have been turned into access roads. The grandstands are still there, rotting into the Earth.
I hate seeing cool stuff disappear so that we can have shit that we don't really need.
