Keith Moon...

I'm not a huge The Who fan by any stretch, but it's hard to deny how good a song like Eminence Front is. That combined with how good the musicians involved were from Pete Townsend's amazing guitar work to John Entwistles crazy Alembic basses and Keith Moon's perfect drumming (albeit missing from this album since this was done posthumously), there is a reason why they're still loved today and considered "classic" rock.

This isn't about The Who though, this is about Keith Moon. If you've never read up on him, please do so. He reminds me of some people that I know today and it's a damn shame that he died at such a young age, even though it was seemingly inevitable. Ringo Starr once told he that he was going to die if he kept it up, to which he replied, "I know."

He was known for crazy acts of random destruction. He would crash cars into pools of hotels, throw furniture out of windows and (his favorite) blow toilets to pieces with dynamite. One time at a hotel Moon was asked to turn down his radio because the band was making "too much noise". In response, Moon told the manager to come up stairs, lit a stick of dynamite in the toilet, and shut the bathroom door. After the explosion Keith turned to the manager and said, "That, dear boy, was noise." He then turned to the radio and said, "This is The Who."

Apparently there is a biopic in the works to be released in 2012 in which Mike Myers is to play Keith Moon. I imagine it'll be a good one.

Parts galore...

I got a set of 80" Harley flywheels from eBay on the cheap because the dude had only labeled them "Shovelhead flywheels stock stroke." My plan for the motor is an 88" using these wheels (4 1/4" stroke), the S&S forged pistons I have (3 5/8+.020" bore) with matching jugs in a set of S&S cases that were with the motor that I bought when I was building my CFL (I'm going red glyptal the interior), crown top heads with dual plugs, Jim's top end oiling valvetrain, split rocker boxes, external oil drains, an S&S pump, The Dyna S ignition coming off of the other Shovel and a couple of other little tricks. It should be a SUPER neat motor when I'm done and be a good combo of fast and reliable.

I've noticed a surge in the amount of people searching for these fenders. It makes me happy that I already have, but also makes me think that there are about to be tons of bikes sporting them. Tha Nutz pulls out that Shovel and all of the sudden not everyone thinks they're ugly. I gotta get mine together...

A little weekend work...

I spent a couple of hours working on my bars yesterday (no pics) and those will be done next weekend. I also made some spacers for my bearing support (long story there), but once a make a little adjustment to the clutch setup, repaint the pipes, and pop on the mag I'll be done with version 2.1. In the meantime though, and at night after everyone is asleep at my house, I've been doing some painting. I'm working about 60 hours a week right now, so work in the garage is few and far between, but I can paint quietly and as late as want without disturbing anyone.

I started painting my primary belt last Sunday. I wanted to touch up a couple of places and I hadn't done the "Built" part yet. It says BDAC Built '80(since it's a 1980 model).

I decided to make a few cigar boxes. One for me and a couple for other BDAC studs. I might make more of them. I started on mine, which I will line with something to hold my paint brushes. I have a lot more to go, but I went ahead and did the lettering. I found it kind of ironic painting something that holds your paint supplies. Kinda like throwing away the box that trash bags come in.

It just looked plain and boring on its own, so I thought I'd give it a little added touch.

I know Timebomb has posted these fellers before, but they are so fucking awesome, they're gettin' posted again. I finallt got Waylon Wednesday on the right day.

Back from powder coating...

I got the mini drum and the rims back from powdercoating. The rims are that same dark gray from as the transmission case and the hubs are black. I plan on roughing up the finish on the rims just like the tranny case to give it a dull look. The front is a 21x1.50 that I got from Danny Franssen in a group buy and the rear is the 18x2.15 that was laced to the mini drum and on the springer when I got it from Shit Falcon.

So of course being the dumbass I am, I felt the need to rough sketch a BDAC rendition. Instead of it being a business man though, I wanted to make it a David Mann-esque biker. I colored it in MS Paint which is why it looks so shitty pixelated and grainy...I can draw stuff, but I don't know shit about computer art programs. I wanted to keep it simple and cartoony, which is why it looks like something drawn on a napkin. It was just a funny sketch to do and I may do a decent looking one for a shirt.

So I just picked up the new cycle source and Flipping through it. Stumble upon the 69 that Seth built. This bike is rad, I had forgotten they shot it at Easyriders in ATL. so here it is in all its glory. Congrats Seth, bitchin build buddy from start to finish. I just hate I didn't get to spray it.
